- ÍtemAcceso AbiertoViolencia de género contra la mujer en Latinoamérica. Revisión bibliográfica(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Solorzano Bernita, Rosa Elizabeth; Terreros Pesantez, Alexandra Pamela; 0104500640Background: Gender-based violence is a severe problem in today's society, perpetuated and normalized by various factors, resulting in health, education, and labor inequalities, among others. In Latin America, violence against women is prevalent and entrenched, strongly linked to gender roles and popular beliefs, leading to stigmatization and discrimination against women. Consequently, rates of sexual and domestic violence, femicides, and other related offenses increase disproportionately in these countries, without consequences for the perpetrators. Objective: To argue by discussing scientific articles on gender violence against women in Latin America. Methodology: A literature review was conducted by analyzing articles from specialized databases within five years’ timeframe. The research utilized inclusion and exclusion criteria, identifying 21 articles with diverse methodologies, primarily published in English. Results: In Latin American countries, women are at a significantly higher risk of sexual assault, migration, intimate partner violence, and gender disparities in employment, health, and education. An association was found between violence against women and individual, social, and demographic factors. Conclusion: Violence against women in Latin America carries physical, psychological, and social consequences, resulting in discrimination and human rights violations. It is necessary to focus on factors related to the perpetrator rather than those related to the victim.
