- ÍtemAcceso AbiertoAlteraciones de estructura en la dentición temporal y su relación con partos prematuros. Una revisión bibliográfica(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2021) Lala Tenelema, María Cristina; Delgado López, María Augusta; 0302300132; ., .OBJECTIVE: The objective of this research was to look for available evidence on structural alterations in the temporary dentition in premature infants, determining if there is a relationship between them. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The methodology applied was the search of literature in different scientific bases such as Pubmed, Scopus, Google Scholar, and Web of Science. A variety of articles were found that addressed the subject. To select information, inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied choosing different types of works such as cohort studies, case studies, case reports, longitudinal studies, systematic reviews, etc. To classify data, the guide of the DeCs and MeSH descriptors were used, gathering a total of 30 articles at the end of the bibliographic search. RESULTS: The results received determined that there is a high correlation between alterations of dental structure and premature birth which Will directly affect the temporary and permanent dentition. Enamel defects are the most frequent alterations in premature children due to multiple factors a mother can present during pregnancy, becoming prenatal, perinatal or postnatal factors. These factors alter the process of amelogenesis where the quantity and quality of the enamel Will have variations. In the articles reviewed, hypoplasia was the most prevalent defect. CONCLUSION: It is important to keep an adequate control during pregnancy until the gestation process ends, because in this way, a correct formation of the dentition and its amelogenesis processes can be guaranteed.

- ÍtemAcceso Abierto“Pérdida prematura de dientes temporales y su influencia en la instalación de hábitos: Una revisión de la literatura”(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2022) Chalan Medina, Alex Fernando; Delgado López, María Augusta; 1104852379; ., .Premature loss of primary anterior teeth is a controversial topic in the literature because of t he lack of scientific evidence. Morphological, functional, and psychosocial problems can arise from the premature loss of untreated primary teeth. Objective: To determine whether the premature loss of primary teeth in the anterior sector influences the development of oral habits. Methodology: A search for scientific papers was conducted through the scientific databases Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, and Redalyc. First, 158 articles were reviewed, eliminating duplicated sources. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied, obtaining 102 pre-selected papers. Then, we continued reading the title, abstract, and keywords to verify the relevance to the topic, and twelve selected papers were utilized. Results: It was found that the most kequent type of habit was the digital suction, which in the different articles provides different types of malocclusions, where the most regular was the anterior open bite, and the average age at which teeth are lost is from 3 to 6 years. Conclusion: The loss of one or more primary incisors on many occasions can promote the development of habits such as protrusion of the tongue or digital suction, which by keeping the tongue or finger in the edentulous part, prevents the adequate eruption of the permanent incisors. In most cases, complications include crowding of permanent teeth, migration of dental pieces, bite alterations, and esthetic and phonetic problems.
- ÍtemAcceso Abierto“Prevalencia de la succión digital y afecciones dentomaxilares en niños de los CNH del Cantón Cañar”(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Bernal Narváez, Michaella Estefanía; Villa Segovia, Karla Magdiel; Delgado López, María Augusta; 0303148589; 0302544937; ., .Objective: To establish the prevalence of thumb sucking in children from Child Development Centers (CDM) (Mi pequeño mundo and Lolita Andrade) in Cañar canton and their dentomaxillary affections. Materials and Methods: The study's approach is quantitative with a descriptive-cross-sectional design, with an observational technique, within the field setting study through a clinical examination. Results: The study was conducted on 90 children, 33 males and 57 females, from the "Lolita Andrade" and "Mi pequeño Mundo" Child Development Centers in Cañar city. The most frequent oral or dentomaxillary consequence of the habit is deep palate followed by dental crowding and hypertonic lip, predominance in children aged from 1 year to 1 year 11 months, female sex, and urban origin. Conclusion: It was concluded that the prevalence of this habit was relatively low in a population of 90 children from the child development centers in Cañar canton, being deep palate the most remarkable dentomaxillary consequence, followed by dental crowding, hypertonic lip, gingivitis, open bite, and incisive vestibularization. Thumb sucking is also presented more frequently according to the socio-demographic variables in children from 1 year to 1 year 11 months of female sex and urban origin. Finally, it was noted that children with thumb-sucking habits presented more than one dentomaxillary anomaly.
The objective ofthis research was to discover the sequelae suffered by the permanent tooth after suffering a dentoalveolar trauma in the primary dentition. Materials and methods: the methodology applied was the bibliographic compilation of dental trauma followed by clinical cases from 2014 - 2020, only clinical cases showing TDA in deciduous dentition and permanent teeth, ages under 8 years were considered readable. Results: a total of 14 clinical cases were included dividing it into two series of cases and 12 individual clinical cases, showing that the mildest injuries were concussion and subluxation in most cases without suffering sequelae in the permanent tooth. The most serious traumas were considered to be: intrusive, extrusive, and lateral luxation promoting sequelae of enamel hypoplasia, dental malposition, chronological alteration of early or late eruption with dental retrusion, protrusion, vestibular, enamel fracture, alterations in the shape and color of the tooth and finally complete avulsion of the permanent tooth. Conclusion: The tissues of the oral cavity are closely related so that if only one of them is affected it can have repercussions on the successors depending on the severity of the trauma. For this reason, it is essential to see a specialist to treat any dental injury with the appropriate dental follow-up to avo id future schools in the permanent teeth since the oral health and esthetics of the child depend on this.
- ÍtemAcceso Abierto“Tratamiento temprano de la mordida profunda: Revisión de la literatura.”(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Muñoz Narváez, Jazmín del Rosario; Delgado López, María Augusta; 0302884721; ., .OBJECTIVE: To determine the appropriate alternatives for early treatment of deep bite through a comprehensive review of the literature. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study is a literature review; information was searched in the scientific databases PubMed, SciELO, Google Scholar, Redalyc, Cochrane, Web of Science, Researchgate, and Scopus, using the search equation with the critical terms interspersed by Boolean operators and - or, assigning inclusion criteria as original articles, literature reviews, systematic reviews, case reports, books (with full text, in English and Spanish that are related to the topic), and exclusion criteria as those documents that did not refer to the topic. RESULTS: Twenty-four articles using the search strategy were selected; these papers met the established method and provided information on the early treatment of overbite using functional appliances such as Herbst, Bionator, Twin Blocks, Bite Plane, Myofunctional Trainer, Frankel II, Bimler type B modeler, etc., which provide permanent positive effects and gain of 3 mm to 5 mm in terms of bite raising. CONCLUSIONS: The appliances reviewed as an early treatment option used in deep bite allow significant permanent changes in the stomatognathic system in patients treated during the growth stages, create occlusal harmony, and improve the quality of life; among the appliances that provide better results are the Twin Blocks, bite plate, Bionator, and Herbst.
