Introduction: The World Health Organization (WHO) has played a pivotal role in combating the COVID-19 pandemic, notably focusing on achieving herd immunity. Objective: The objective was to identify the side effects of COVID-19 vaccination on dental students and faculty staff at the Catholic University of Cuenca, Azogues Campus. Methodology: The study was quantitative, descriptive, and cross-sectional, involving 504 participants (470 students and 34 faculty members). The sample size was calculated using the Open Epi software, determining a minimum sample size of 288 units. Simple random sampling was employed with adherence to selection criteria. Results: Primary findings indicate that the Sinovac vaccine was predominantly used (28.82%), followed by Pfizer (22.22%). Of the participants, 42.71% received two doses plus a booster. Additionally, 42.01% reported no symptoms post-immunization. Among those who experienced symptoms, the most commonly reported were headache, stomach discomfort, general malaise, joint pain, bone pain, fever, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, totaling 18.42%. In response to symptoms, self-medication was prevalent (20.83%), with paracetamol being administered in 3.13% of cases. Conclusion: The primary objective was to evaluate post-vaccination side effects, revealing that most of the study sample did not exhibit symptoms. Those who reported minor symptoms did not need emergency care and were managed with self-administered medications. Keywords: COVID-19, vaccine, inoculation, side effects, dosage

This work aims to write about the effects of increasing the temperature of the photopolymerization lamp used in dentistry on the pulp chamber. This systematic review employed the PRISMA method to show the search process of articles in PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases from 2016 to 2023. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied, and keywords linked to the research topic were used. A total of 82,376 articles were obtained; then, applying the inclusion, exclusion, and selection criteria, twenty-five full-text articles related to the increase in temperature during Photopolymerization lamp use and its effect on the pulp were selected. The increase in the temperature of the photopolymerization lamp causes effects that can affect the dental pulp, causing sensitivity, reversible pulpitis, and irreparable lesions such as irreversible pulpitis and necrosis. Keywords: Dental pulp, Led light curing, polymerization, light curing.

Prevalencia de maloclusiones en niños del proyecto juntos por una sonrisa
(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2024) Cárdenas Amendaño, Cristopher Andrés; Crespo Crespo, Mercedes Cristina; 0302737143
The project "Juntos por una sonrisa" (Tied Together with a Smile) aims to identify the prevalence of malocclusions in children and determine its most common type according to gender and age. This research employed a quantitative approach and descriptive design, conducting an observational and retrospective study using clinical and system records. The sample comprised 447 children from various locations, such as Javier Loyola, Azogues, La Troncal, Borrero, and Cañar. The results revealed that children aged 8-10 had the highest prevalence of malocclusions (36% in males and 31% in females). There was no significant association between Angle's malocclusions and gender, although Type I was the most prevalent in both genders. Additionally, no relationship was found between age and the Angle's malocclusion types. In conclusion, Angle's Type I malocclusion was the most frequent (96%), followed by Type II (3%) and Type III (1%). No significant differences in prevalence were observed between gender or age, suggesting that the types of malocclusion could be related to genetic, environmental, or developmental factors. These findings underscore the need for further studies to better understand the causes and consequences of malocclusions, enabling the development of more effective prevention and treatment strategies for affected children. Keywords: angle's type, prevalence, malocclusions, association, children
