Anteproyecto arquitectónico para la integración del mercado itinerante y el Centro Cultural El Cebollar, Cuenca

Abstract

This project addresses the preliminary architectural design for the integration of the itinerant market and cultural center in the El Cebollar sector of Cuenca, Ecuador. The initiative arose in response to the lack of an adequate, integrated, and sustainable infrastructure, which has led to urban disorder, environmental deterioration, and social fragmentation. The study begins with a historical review of cultural centers and markets, highlighting their interrelationship in the economy and the social network. Subsequently, national and international architectural references are analyzed, and the current regulations applicable to each type are examined. From there, a diagnosis of the El Cebollar sector is carried out, identifying the main urban planning problems. Based on this analysis, a preliminary project is proposed that connects both facilities through a functional, accessible, and sustainable proposal. The proposal aims to improve the organization of public space, strengthen the neighborhood’s identity, and boost the local economy. The design considers criteria of spatial efficiency, urban integration, and sustainability, consolidating an urban node that responds to the needs of the community and can be implemented in similar contexts.
