Abstract

The city is surrounded by gray infrastructure due to the large percentage of buildings without a vegetative environment, which causes the loss of the sense of connection of human beings with their surroundings. Likewise, among the most significant ecological effects is the fragmentation of the different habitats that generate biodiversity loss, soil degradation, and an increase in the heat island, among others. Therefore, the purpose of this document is to create indicators for the design of an urban connectivity network through green urban corridors, based on the "Guía para el diseño de corredores verdes urbanos: experiencia de Loja" [Guide for the Design of Urban Green Corridors: Loja's Experience], which leads to improving the relationship of biodiversity, articulation of green spaces, and other benefits for society. The development of this work is divided into three stages. The first is the research on green infrastructure, urban connectivity, urban green corridors, and their characteristics. The second stage identifies elements and information required by the methodology through cartographic interpretation tools of the study site. Finally, the third stage is developed from the data collected; it defines indicators that will allow quantifying characteristics to prioritize the urban corridors in the study area, resulting in the mass plan of a green urban connectivity network considering the features of urban green corridors in the southern region of Cuenca.
