Resumen
Palliative care consists of all those interventions that are performed when a patient cannot
receive curative treatment. These interventions are conducted by health professionals,
considering the patient holistically and comprehensively; joint actions are carried out to help
improve their quality of life, restoring the factors that surround them such as medical care,
social, emotional, and family support.
It is unavoidable to highlight the importance of the timely intervention of the social
worker in the health field since they have at their disposal a series of methods, techniques,
and instruments that facilitate direct and indirect intervention with the user, and, as part of
the multidisciplinary team in the decision-making process that provides support during the
disease process and accompaniment that it performs for good dying. This is the reason why
the present research is proposed with the general objective of "Analyzing social work
intervention from the ecological model with patients in palliative care: An accompaniment
for good dying, at the Foundation for the Service of the Cancer Patient" ‘Lola Farfán de
Palacios’ (FASEC, in Spanish) in January - November 2019”. The methodology used for this
research was qualitative and quantitative, through the structured interview, and applying the
survey information was obtained from patients or relatives, as well as from the
multidisciplinary team. As a result of the investigation, it was determined that the
intervention of the social worker from the ecological model with patients in palliative care is
essential to improve their quality of life during their last days, ensuring that the death process
is with dignity. In conclusion, the social worker plays a fundamental role in the intervention
with palliative care patients, being who supports the patient at each stage of the disease and
supports the family.

Los cuidados paliativos son todas aquellas intervenciones que se realizan cuando un
paciente no puede recibir un tratamiento curativo. Estas intervenciones son llevadas a cabo por
los profesionales del área de la salud, considerando al paciente de una manera holística e
integral, se realizan acciones conjuntas que ayuden a mejorar su calidad de vida, restableciendo
los factores que lo rodean como lo son: la atención médica, apoyo social, emocional y familiar.
Es ineludible resaltar la importancia de la intervención oportuna del trabajador social en el
campo de la salud, puesto que tiene a su disposición una serie de métodos, técnicas e
instrumentos que facilitan la intervención directa e indirecta con el usuario; y, como parte del
equipo multidisciplinario en la toma de decisiones que brinden apoyo durante el proceso de la
enfermedad y acompañamiento que realice para el buen morir. Motivo por el cual, se plantea
la presente investigación que tiene como objetivo general “Analizar la intervención de trabajo
social desde el modelo ecológico con pacientes en cuidados paliativos: Un acompañamiento
para el buen morir, en la Fundación al Servicio del Enfermo de Cáncer “Lola Farfán de
Palacios” (FASEC) en el periodo enero – noviembre 2019”. La metodología utilizada para esta
investigación fue el método cuali cuantitativo, a través de la entrevista estructurada y aplicando
la encuesta se obtuvo la información de los pacientes o familiares, como del equipo
multidisciplinario. Como resultado de la investigación se determinó que la intervención del
trabajador social desde el modelo ecológico con pacientes en cuidados paliativos es
fundamental para mejorar su calidad de vida durante sus últimos días, consiguiendo que el
proceso de muerte sea con dignidad. En conclusión, el trabajador social cumple un rol
fundamental en la intervención con pacientes en cuidados paliativos, siendo quien da
acompañamiento en cada etapa de la enfermedad al paciente y soporte a la familia.
