- ÍtemAcceso AbiertoActitudes del personal de enfermería ante el fallecimiento de un paciente(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Barbecho Narea, Leslie Salomé; Peralta Zhagui, Sharon Mónica; Tenemaza Ruilova, Marcelo; 0105464168; 0106459563The death of a patient is a transcendental event in the field of care and constitutes a critical moment in the life of nursing professionals. Objective: To analyze the different attitudes of nursing staff in the face of a patient's death, for which purpose this study was carried out. Methodology: A bibliographic review of relevant scientific databases such as Redalyc, ReasearchGate, SciELO, Dialnet, PudMed, and Scopus was conducted in the last five years, obtaining 50 bibliographies. Results: Death is the complete cessation of vital functions and the end of the physical existence of the human being. Developing an adequate perspective in the face of this event depends on several factors; some professionals experience frustration, impotence, anger, dissatisfaction, anguish, and sadness; however, most of them adopt a positive attitude. Grief is a complex process that may involve different stages, such as denial, anger, negotiation, depression, and acceptance, the main nursing interventions for grief management. It can be concluded that communication, spirituality, environment, and empathy provide emotional support to family members, allowing them to express their feelings in a safe space. Conclusion: It was determined that nurses experience and manage grief and death in unique ways, influenced by personal, professional, and contextual factors. Feelings vary from grief and sadness to gratitude. Professionals use strategies such as emotional distancing to maintain quality of care. Key interventions in grief management include communication, spirituality, environment, and empathy, seeking to alleviate the suffering of family members. Keywords: nursing, grief, death, patients.
- ÍtemAcceso AbiertoAnemia Ferropénica en adultos mayores a nivel mundial(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Cabrera Barba, Kennet Yavenjhacop; Pesantez Redrovan, Vilma Yanina; Puma Quito, Rodrigo Salvador; 1900867225; 0106347594Introduction: Iron deficiency anemia is the loss of iron in the body caused by an imbalance between intake, reserves, consumption, and loss of body iron. Iron deficiency affects vulnerable groups such as older adults. Objective: To analyze the scientific evidence related to iron deficiency anemia in older adults worldwide. Method: This is a descriptive narrative research based on the search and analysis of articles in scientific databases such as Springerlink, Medigraphic, Scopus, Latindex, PubMed, Bvs, SciELO, Redalyc, Dialnet, ScienceDirect, as well as institutional websites related to the field of health, and the study topic was related to 163 scientific articles. Results: Worldwide, approximately 48.8% of the elderly population suffers from iron deficiency anemia, mostly in the female sex with 20.1%. The main predisposing factors for iron deficiency anemia are inflammatory diseases, neoplasms, altitude and age, and a lack of iron-rich foods. The occurrence of complications is cardiovascular, renal, respiratory, gastric, and neurological, which affect the lifestyle of geriatric patients. Conclusion: Due to the high prevalence of iron deficiency anemia in the elderly worldwide and the risk of damage to the major systems, the nursing professional must have sufficient expertise and updated knowledge of the pathology and provide specialized care to improve the quality of life of the geriatric population. Keywords: Iron deficiency anemia, nursing care, elderly, prevalence.

- ÍtemAcceso AbiertoAplicación de las TICS (Tecnologías de la información y comunicaciones) en el cuidado de la salud(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2024) Romero Zeas, Carmen Verónica; Guevara Vizcaíno, Claudio Fernando; 0105879415Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in patient care use digital tools to provide services, strengthening a country’s economic and social development; they are classified as soft, soft-hard, and hard. Objective: To develop a literature review on applying Information and Communication Technologies in health services. Methodology: A non-experimental research literature review, structured with articles consulted from scientific sources, such as Taylor & Francis, PubMed, SciELO, Scopus, Medline, ProQuest, Springer, Web of Science, and Redalyc, was conducted. Results: The most widely used computer applications for patient care are mobile applications and digital platforms; concerning the contribution of ICTs in disease prevention, they are classified into primary prevention, focused on avoiding the development of pathologies, while secondary prevention is aimed at early detection of conditions, and tertiary prevention focuses on reducing complications in chronic diseases. Among the existing limitations in care, the following can be distinguished: lack of security, privacy, acceptability, reliability, and others. On the other hand, the areas of nursing in which ICTs are mainly used are assistance, administration, research, and teaching. Finally, the digital divide is evidenced by economic, geographic, and social factors. Conclusion: ICTs are essential tools nowadays and very useful for healthcare professionals because they optimize resources and time spent in different healthcare areas.
