Gold posts have excellent adaptation, but their disadvantages are corrosion, pigmentation, and high cost. Prefabricated fiberglass posts are the most commonly used because of their fatigue resistenace, low modulus of elasticity, and dentin-like stress pattern. On the other hand, zirconia ceramic posts have flexural stregth, biocompatibility, esthetics, and translucency, however, they have a higher modulus of elascity than dentin. Objetcive: To comparate gold, zirconia and fiberglass posts. Methodology: A selection of 355 scientific articles was made, from which 32 papers were selected for the literature review; the articles were in Spanish and English, in the date range 2008-2021. Results: Gold posts have more excellent retention and resistance to fracture and are used in teeth with severe damage. Zirconia posts are fracture-resistant, avoid esthetic problems, but cause catastrophic root failure. Fiberglass posts reduce stress, better the distribution of forces, and reduce working time. Conclusions: Fiberglass posts are widely used because of their dentin-like modulus of elasticity, high biocompatibility, reduced tension and occlusal stress, and high esthetics.
