- ÍtemAcceso AbiertoPrevalencia de succión digital y anomalías dentomaxilares en escolares de la Ciudad de Azogues.(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Alvarado Guamán, Lady Laura; Urgiles Esquivel, Cristina Estefanía; 0350014247; ., .OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the prevalence of thumb sucking and its associated dentomaxillary anomalies in school children in Azogues. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A descriptive transversal observational study was developed. The reference population comprised 600 children aged 6 - 12 years from public and private educational establishments belonging to the urban area of the city of Azogues based on the data from the 2010 census. The sample size calculation was performed using the Open Epi open-access software, setting the reference population at 95% reliability, resulting in a sample of 235 research individuals. The type of randomization was Simple Random Sampling. RESULTS: Thumb sucking is more common in girls aged 6-9 from urban areas. The results also indicated that dentofacial anomalies are more prevalent in girls aged 6-9. However, it cannot be stated that there is a statistical significance between thumb sucking, dentofacial anomalies, and where children come from. CONCLUSIONS: It was concluded that there is a higher prevalence of digital sucking and dentofacial anomalies in girls aged 6 to 9 years from urban areas, emphasizing that there is no relationship between the presence of digital sucking, dentofacial anomalies, and the place where children come from.
