Revisión de literatura(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2020) Ávila Montalvo, Rolando Steve; Ramírez Velásquez, Mariela; 0302490552; ., .AIM: The objective of the research was to analyze the relevant literature in relation to functional orthopedics as a therapeutic alternative in cases of class II malocclusions. MATERIAL AND METHODS. CONCLUSIONS: A search for study information was performed in the databases: PubMed (Medline), EBSCO, SciELO; Redalyc; LILACS, Google Scholar. Using the keywords: “Functional orthopedics, malocclusions, Functional appliances, Angle's Class II. distoclusion”. The search was carried out based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Articles less than 10 years old, articles in English, Spanish, and Portuguese were included. The exclusion criteria were articles that did not address the topic of interest, and older articles. RESULTS: 542 articles were found. Finally, after using the selection criteria, 68 articles of interest were obtained. There is a great variety of devices, which were found to be efficient in each case, such as: mandibular growth, improvement of the patient's profile, improve labial incompetence, correct habits, skeletal and soft tissue changes, maxillary expansion, and control of the dental position, in order to choose and guarantee the effectiveness of the device, an accurate diagnosis and a complete treatment plan must be carried out. CONCLUSIONS: It was shown that functional orthopedics of the jaws is effective for the treatment of class II malocclusions, the use of functional orthopedics is recommended at an early age to improve the effectiveness of the treatment, all the devices achieved the necessary effectiveness according to the authors.
