MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study was of quantitative approach, descriptive design and cross section, the sample was made up by 187 students from different educational centers in the city of Cañar between the ages of 8 to 10 years, to whom a survey was applied using the oral health perception questionnaire (short CPQ) which consists of 16 questions divided into four dimensions. Statistical analysis was evidenced in frequency tables, the chi-square test was used. RESULTS: The problems that affected the most were, food stuck between teeth with 38.50%, followed by problems eating hard things with 13%, and bleeding in the gums when eating or brushing teeth with 11.76%, affecting more the Oral Symptomatology dimension followed by Functional Limitation, the least affected dimension was Social Well-being with its question # 13 it avoids participating in classes for the pain of mispronouncing some words with 2%. No significant difference was found in any of the dimensions. CONCLUSION: It is evident that oral health difficulties negatively affect the lives of students, being more prevalent in the female sex, thus affecting their quality of life.

The objective of this bibliographic review was to determine the methods of prevention of caries in early childhood according on current published literature. Materials and methods: the applied methodology was reviewed the literature published for seven years ago on CIT. To select 80 scientific articles on Scielo, The Lancet, PubMed, Google Scholar, Cochrane, official websites of the WHO, PAHO and MSP in english and spanish language. Results: The caries is a family disease caused by highlighting the consumption of sugar, foods with high starch content also low levels socioeconomic and educational, maternal nutrition and psychosocial problems. Visiting the pediatrician dentist provides advice on oral hygiene and recommendation concerning brushing and using toothpaste equivalent to a grain of rice of 1000 ppm of fluoride in one-year-olds and 1,450 ppm fluoride toothpaste size of a pea from 3 years ago. Conclusion: the oral education supervised by parents and teachers are simple, effective and inexpensive actions prevent cavities in children under 6 years of age.
