To determine the prevalence of malocclusions and self-perception in schoolchildren aged 12 years of rural parishes - Azogues 2019. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Type of study descriptive, cross-sectional, observational, the study population was made up of schoolchildren 12 years old belonging to the Educational Units of the rural parishes of the city of Quicksilvers. RESULTS. In 12-year-old schoolchildren, the prevalence of malocclusions was: 54.3 % class I, 27.1% class II 1, 9.6% class III and 9% class II 2. The prevalence of 12-year-olds who do not perceive the need for orthodontic treatment was 68%, followed by the perception of moderate need in 26.9% and required need in 5.2%. CONCLUSIONS. The prevalence of malocclusions in 12-year-old children was higher in class I and class II 1 with higher percentage in males than females. The most affected occlusion conditions were unilateral class I molar malocclusion, unilateral class I canine malocclusion, also the The most prevalent altered occlusal features were: Increased Overjet, Increased Overbite, Anterior open bite, Posterior open bite, Crowding, Diastema, upper midline and lower middle line, the presence of a significant number of schoolchildren stands out who, according to their self-perception are at the limit required for orthodontic treatment.
