- ÍtemAcceso AbiertoDeterminación de candida albicans en labiales(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Arias Iñiguez, Michael Alexander; Araujo Campoverde, María Viviana; 1104871627Introduction. Candida albicans (C.albicans) is a natural yeast present in the mucous membranes of the human organism; however, when there is an alteration in the immune system, this yeast can present itself as whitish plaques on the affected mucous membranes. In addition, the presence of pathologies that may affect areas near specific mucous membranes or lesions near them, makes these areas an ideal environment for the proliferation of this yeast. Objective: The objective of this research was to determine the presence of Candida albicans in lipsticks sold in the city of Cuenca, to determine the growth in sabouraud dextrose chloramphenicol agar, and to determine the number of Colony Forming Units (CFU). Methodology. Within this context, this research work determines the presence of Candida albicans in 15 lipsticks issued in specific locations of the city of Cuenca, using the test method to determine Candida albicans in cosmetics established by the FDA. Results. As a result of the experimental study, the absence of Candida albicans was identified in the lipstick samples taken. Conclusion. The absence of Candida albicans in the lipstick samples evidences the possible presence of parabens in the formulation, which prevented the growth of yeasts in Sabouraud dextrose chloramphenicol agar.
- ÍtemAcceso AbiertoDeterminación de staphylococcus aureus en bases en barra cosméticas en la ciudad de Cuenca.(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Tapia Pinguil, David Enmanuel; Mejía Agudo, Diego Ismael; Araujo Campoverde, María Viviana; 0105269575; 0107278467Introduction: Staphylococcus aureus is one of the most frequently identified agents responsible for infections associated with skin care. Cosmetic products come in a wide range and are used for different purposes, such as cleansing, protection, fragrance, and enhancing skin appearance. However, there have been instances where microbial contamination affects the quality of skin care products. Objective: This research aims to determine the presence/absence of Staphylococcus aureus in stick-type cosmetic foundations in Cuenca. Methodology: The methodology applied in this research is descriptive observational, employing a qualitative cross-sectional approach by culturing samples using Petri dishes with mannitol salt agar. Results: After analyzing all the samples, a result was obtained in which all the samples in the mannitol salt agar were negative, which makes it possible to conclude this research satisfactorily since this bacterium was not found in the cosmetic foundations in Cuenca. Conclusion: At the end of the investigation, it was concluded the absence of S. aureus in the cosmetic foundations analyzed.

- ÍtemAcceso AbiertoPercepción de riesgo de cáncer de piel y el uso de protector solar en la urbanización de Miravalle, sector el Guabo-La Dolorosa(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Villegas Guzmán, Judith Juliana; Culcay Yépez, Ana Carolina; Araujo Campoverde, María Viviana; 106040702; 105678650Introduction: Due to its frequency, skin cancer is a health problem that significantly affects society. Using sunscreen is associated with a preventive measure, one of the practices that prevent UV (ultraviolet) radiation from being in contact with the skin with greater intensity. Objective: To determine the perception of skin cancer risk and sun protection usage in the inhabitants of the Miravalle urbanization in the El Guabo-La Dolorosa sector. Methodology: For the development of this thesis, a non-experimental, transversal, descriptive research design was used, according to Roberto Hernandez Sampieri of the sixth edition research methodology. Results: The knowledge of the inhabitants of the Miravalle urbanization, in the El Guabo-La Dolorosa sector of the Ricaurte parish in Cuenca was measured. Although they know about sun protection, it is not reflected in their daily application. Conclusion: The data collected in this study support the notion that skin cancer remains a public health concern that requires strong preventive measures, such as sunscreen usage.

- ÍtemSolo MetadatosRevisión sistemática sobre uso del cannabidiol (CBD) como terapia alternativa en pacientes con diagnóstico de cáncer.(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) González Carrión, Belky Naomi; Guzmán Coronel, Jesús Sebastián; Araujo Campoverde, María Viviana; 0751012899; 0106929029Introduction Cannabidiol (CBD) is a compound derived from the Cannabis sativa plant, which has garnered significant interest due to its pharmacological properties. CBD is being increasingly used in the treatment of various conditions, particularly cancer. As a result, numerous clinical trials have demonstrated its potential in managing chemotherapy side effects, thereby improving patients' quality of life and treatment adherence. Objective: This systematic review aims to analyze the most recent scientific evidence to describe the use of CBD as an alternative therapy in patients diagnosed with cancer. Methodology: The review follows the PRISMA guidelines, employing a quantitative exploratory research design with a bibliographic approach that adheres to the standards of quality and transparency expected by the scientific community and other interested parties. Results: CBD, when used as an adjunct to the therapeutic regimen, has shown promise in counteracting the side effects of chemotherapy. However, limited research and control over this drug have revealed cognitive effects in several patients. Conclusion: This review compiles recent data on the use of CBD, suggesting beneficial effects in reducing cancer-related symptoms and the side effects of conventional treatments. It generates a discussion on the efficacy of CBD as part of an oncological therapeutic regimen.
