The correct eradication of the bacterium has not been achieved due to the increase in the rate of antibiotic resistance. Its prevalence is higher than 92% in developing countries. Objective: To describe information on antibiotic susceptibility, Helicobacter pylori infection diagnoses, and treatments in asymptomatic patients in America. Method: Descriptive literature review. Results: Approximately half of the population with Helicobacter pylori infection is asymptomatic, which is related to biological and environmental factors causing the rise of gastrointestinal diseases; the most common is acute gastritis, which was found in 90% of patients. The clinical methods used for sensitivity testing are PCR, agar dilution, and DNA and molecular sequencing, showing an efficiency greater than 95%, which allows to identifying gene mutations related to antimicrobial resistance. The most studied gene mutations are A2143G and A2142. Conclusions: Due to the high antimicrobial resistance worldwide, it is appropriate that patients with suspected or confirmed Helicobacter pylori infection undergo susceptibility testing for correct treatment and complete eradication of the bacterium.
