dc.descriptionEn la presente investigación se evaluó el funcionamiento de las plantas de tratamiento de aguas residuales (PTAR) de la zona urbana y rural del cantón El Tambo, así como el grado de contaminación que generan en los ríos Cañar y San Antonio. Las PTAR cuentan con niveles de tratamiento físico y biológico, por lo que, su estudio engloba la evaluación de las unidades de tratamiento existentes y calibración del modelo de consumo de oxígeno en ríos “Streeter y Phelps”, por medio de la caracterización del agua residual y natural, con el fin de conocer el funcionamiento actual de las PTAR y la contaminación real que producen sus efluentes en los ríos Cañar y San Antonio. Los resultados de la investigación muestran que las calidades de los efluentes finales cumplen con la normativa vigente, a pesar de los bajos porcentajes de remoción que presentan respecto a los esperados en las estructuras construidas; por otra parte, las dimensiones de las unidades de depuración satisfacen las demandas de caudal y carga contaminante a excepción del sedimentador del tanque Imhoff de la PTAR “El Muelle”, por otra parte, la PTAR de la zona urbana requiere la implantación de un pre tratamiento que impida el paso de materiales gruesos. Los ríos según la modelización realizada presentan niveles de oxígeno por encima de los establecidos en la norma para los diferentes usos del agua. Finalmente, el presente análisis establece recomendaciones que permitan mejorar el funcionamiento de las PTAR con base en las deficiencias encontradas en los sistemas de tratamiento, con el objeto de lograr una mayor eficiencia de remoción y por ende mejorar los problemas de insalubridad en el cantón.es_ES
dc.description.abstractThis research evaluated the operation of wastewater treatment plants (WWTP) in the urban and rural areas of El Tambo canton, as well as the degree of contamination they generate in the Cañar and San Antonio rivers. The WWTPs have physical and biological treatment levels; therefore, the study includes the evaluation of the existing treatment units and calibration of the "Streeter and Phelps" model of oxygen consumption in rivers, through the characterization of wastewater and natural water, in order to know the current operation of the WWTPs and the actual pollution produced by their effluents in the Cañar and San Antonio rivers. The results of the investigation show that the quality of the final effluents complies with current regulations, despite the low removal percentages that they present concerning those expected in the structures built; on the other hand, the dimensions of the purification units meet the demands of flow and pollutant load except for the settling tank Imhoff of the WWTP "El Muelle". On the other hand, the WWTP of the urban area requires the implementation of a pre-treatment that prevents the passage of thick materials. According to the modeling made, the rivers present oxygen levels above those established in the standard for the different water uses. Finally, this analysis establishes recommendations to improve the operation of the WWTPs based on the deficiencies found in the treatment systems, to achieve greater removal efficiency, and thus improve the problems of unhealthy conditions in the canton.es_ES
