OBJECTIVE: The objective of this research was to carry out a bibliographic review to analyze
the characteristics of periodontal and peri-implant phenotypes, in order to define their differences,
establish the prevalence of phenotype in people and define whether there is a relationship with
age and age. sex of people. MATERIALS AND METHODS: bibliographic review of scientific
articles, publications, thesis projects, trials and clinical cases about periodontal phenotypes and
peri-implant phenotypes. RESULTS: the characteristics of the periodontal phenotype depend on
the appearance, scalloping, coronal morphology and the underlying bone, in the case of the periimplant
phenotype it depends on the components such as soft tissue, the width of the keratinized mucosa, the
thickness of the mucosa and the height of the supracrestal tissue, the differences are marked in the treatments
performed in the first case, gingival treatments and in the second, mucosa treatments. In the case of the prevalence of the periodontal phenotype, the investigations showed that the fine phenotype is the most common and does not present a relationship with the characteristics of the sex and age of the patients. CONCLUSIONS: the differentiation and determination of phenotypes in patients is important for dental professionals, since they can have greater control in terms of analysis, or post-operative treatments.

OBJETIVO: El objetivo de esta investigación fue realizar una revisión bibliográfica para analizar
las características de los fenotipos periodontales y periimplantarios, con el propósito de definir
sus diferencias, establecer la prevalencia de fenotipo en las personas y definir si existe una
relación con la edad y el sexo de las personas. MATERIALES Y MÉTODOS: revisión
bibliográfica de artículos científicos, publicaciones, proyectos de tesis, ensayos y casos clínicos
acerca de los fenotipos periodontales y fenotipos periimplantarios. RESULTADOS: las
características del fenotipo periodontal dependen de la apariencia, el festoneado, morfología
coronal y el hueso subyacente, en el caso del fenotipo periimplantario depende de los
componentes como son el tejido blando, el ancho de la mucosa queratinizada, el espesor de la
mucosa y la altura del tejido supracrestal, las diferencias se marcan en los tratamientos que
realizan en el primer caso, tratamientos gingivales y en el segundo, tratamientos de la mucosa.
En el caso de la prevalencia del fenotipo periodontal, las investigaciones demostraron que el
fenotipo fino es el más común y no presentan una relación con las características del sexo y la
edad de los pacientes. CONCLUSIONES: la diferenciación y determinación de los fenotipos en
los pacientes es importante para los profesionales odontológicos, ya que se puede tener un
mayor control en cuanto al análisis, o los tratamientos post operatorios.
