Abstract

This systematic and descriptive study will investigate the relationship between sexual satisfaction and self-image in adult men and women. Following the review guidelines through PRISMA, exhaustive searches were conducted in reliable bibliographic sources such as SciELO, Redalyc, Google Scholar, Springer, Elsevier, Web of Science, and PubMed. The results highlight a close connection between sexual satisfaction and self-image, influenced by body perception, gender identity, and social representations. Additionally, health-related physical and emotional changes, such as breast reconstruction or sterilization, have been demonstrated to impact self-image and sexual satisfaction. In conclusion, this study’s findings highlight the presence of a relevant association between sexual satisfaction and self-image in adults, both men and women. These results contribute to the current knowledge on the subject and underline the importance of considering psychosocial and health factors when promoting healthy and satisfactory sexuality in the adult population.
