Intervención urbano-arquitectónica para la regeneración integral del malecón turístico en El Playón, parroquia Torata, cantón Santa Rosa

Abstract

Abstract The riverbank of the Santa Rosa River, located in the El Playón sector, presents a process of recreational occupation without planning or adequate infrastructure, evidenced by precarious constructions, lack of basic services, and poor waste management. This situation affects the quality of public space, safety, environmental comfort, and the relationship between the community and the fluvial environment. In response, this study proposes an urban-architectural intervention for the comprehensive regeneration of the riverbank for tourist and community use, with the aim of improving its functionality, image, and social appropriation. The methodology adopted a design-based approach, supported by participatory diagnosis and an urban-landscape analysis of the sector, through in situ observations, data collection, and the recording of usage dynamics. As a result, a viable architectural preliminary design is proposed, incorporating hierarchical pathways, gathering areas, contextual urban furniture, commercial modules, and spaces for waste management along the riverbank. The intervention is structured under principles of universal accessibility, spatial legibility, environmental sustainability, and landscape integration, fostering improved public space performance, enhanced social cohesion, and stronger interaction between the community, tourism, and the natural environment.
