This research aims to develop numerical finite element models to examine capacity curves and to evaluate the influence of longitudinal and transverse steel arrangement on crack development. Six scale models and three models with actual measurements were numerically calibrated using the Abaqus software. The results obtained from the scale models were compared with previously built physical models. A variation of up to 6.6% in the maximum load-carrying capacity was observed, and the cracking patterns did not show complete agreement due to the geometrical unevenness of the concrete. Numerical 2D10 models showed that more stirrup spacing leads to fewer cracks, while 3D8 models did not establish a clear relationship between the number of stirrups and the number of cracks. The models with real dimensioning revealed an inversely proportional relationship between the number of stirrups and the number of cracks. The conclusion was that the energy to be dissipated during loading can appear in multiple or concentrated cracks depending on the assigned stirrup spacing.
