Efectividad del test de Denver versus el test Bayley-III en la evaluación del neurodesarrollo infantil en pacientes de 1-42 meses: revisión sistemática

Abstract

Objectives: To evaluate the effectiveness of the Denver Test compared to the Bayley-III Test for assessing child neurodevelopment in children from 1 to 42 months of age through a systematic review. Methodology: This study conducted a qualitative review of randomized trials examining the sensitivity and specificity of the Denver Test and the Bayley-III Test. It included international journal articles published between 2014 to 2024. The review follows the PRISMA-2020 statement, using MeSH terms and logical operators. Results: The Bayley-III Test showed a sensitivity in the motor index ranging from 26.3% to 76% and a specificity of 27% to 99.4%. The PPVs range from 38% to 96.4%, with an LR+ of 1.04 to 103.2. Meanwhile, the Denver Test showed a sensitivity for gross motor skills ranging from 65.16% to 86.6%. The PPV and NPV are high (72.5%–97.12%), with an LR+ between 1.1 and 46.2. Discussion: The two tests differ in terms of sensitivity, specificity, and predictive values. The Denver Test shows high sensitivity in the area of language, although it demonstrates low specificity, while the Bayley-III Test demonstrates high accuracy in various areas. Limitations: There was a difficulty in finding articles related to the validity of the Denver Test. Additionally, some restricted-access articles did not provide necessary information, posing a high risk of bias that affects their validity. Conclusions: Both tests proved to be highly useful; the Bayley-III Test demonstrates greater accuracy in terms of sensitivity and specificity in areas such as cognition, motor skills, and language, while the Denver Test is suitable for initial screening.
