Resumen
Introduction: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) causing AIDS or acquired immunodeficiency syndrome is currently a pathology of great importance that has arisen in the community as it predisposes the patient to various opportunistic infections or neoplasms. Science has shown considerable progress in its knowledge about its transmission routes, clinical and symptomatologic manifestations, as well as its treatment,
without neglecting issues such as the promotion and prevention of this pathology. However, in dentistry, knowledge is very vague for professionals and patients. Method: A descriptive documentary study based on a literature review and an update on the dental approach to patients with HIV/AIDS was carried out. Objective: The aim of this literature review is to increase knowledge of the timely and adequate management of patients with HIV/AIDS in order to improve their quality of life and offer treatment that guarantees adequate management. Conclusion: The need to generate, standardize, and update stomatological protocols is emphasized, generating skills and strengthening the knowledge of specialists and general dentists in patients with HIV-AIDS.

Introducción: El VIH virus de inmunodeficiencia humana que genera SIDA o síndrome de inmunodeficiencia adquirida en la actualidad es una patología de mayor importancia que se ha generado en la comunidad, puesto que genera predisposición al paciente a diferentes infecciones oportunistas o neoplasias. La ciencia a mostrado avances considerables sobre su conocimiento entorno a sus vías de transmisión, manifestaciones
clínicas y sintomatológicas como así también su tratamiento, sin dejar de lado temas como la promoción y prevención de dicha patología. Sin embargo, en el manejo del área odontológica su conocimiento es muy vagal por parte del especialista como también por el paciente. Método: Se realizó un estudio descriptivo documental mediante la revisión de la literatura y actualización sobre el abordaje odontológico del paciente con VIH/SIDA. Objetivo: Mediante la presente revisión de la literatura tiene como objetivo magnificar los conocimientos del manejo oportuno y adecuado del paciente potador de VIH-SIDA cuyo fin es de mejorar su calidad de vida y ofrecer un tratamiento que garantice su manejo adecuado. Conclusión: Se enfatiza sobre la necesidad de generar, estandarizar y actualizar los protocolos estomatológicos, generando habilidades y
fortaleciendo conocimientos a los especialistas y odontólogos general en pacientes con VIH-SIDA.
