Resumen
OBJECTIVE: The objective of this research was to determine the Self-perception of Dental
Caries in 12-year-old schoolchildren of the Rural Parishes of Azogues 2018. MATERIALS AND
METHODS: This study is based on a quantitative approach, with a design and level of descriptive
research, by field scope, under an observational technique, and by a current transverse
temporality; where the entrance to the Rural Educational Centers of the Canton Azogues was
made to carry out a survey on the Self-perception of Dental Caries, in which there was a
population of 416 schoolchildren of 12 years of age, after the application of the criteria of
selection, the final sample consisted of 387 children who presented the signed consents and
informed consent respectively. RESULTS: According to the Caries Self-perception, most of the
students do not perceive Dental Caries, on the other hand as regards the performance most
affected by the Self Report, it was found that the highest rates were presented in the option of
Eating Food and Washing the teeth; also according to sex, Self-perception was more affected in
the male sex; on the other hand, in the frequency of impact, the highest affirmative answer was
for the option of Eating Foods in both sexes, and finally, according to the severity; this was
observed in the severity off all aspects, being the highest Eating Foods.

OBJETIVO: El objetivo de esta investigación fue determinar la Autopercepción de Caries Dental
en escolares de 12 años de las Parroquias Rurales de Azogues 2018. MATERIALES Y
METODOS: Este estudio está basado dentro de un enfoque cuantitativo, con un diseño y nivel
de investigación descriptivo, por el ámbito de campo, bajo una técnica observacional, y por una
temporalidad transversal actual; en donde se realizó el ingreso a los Centros educativos Rurales
del Cantón Azogues para realizar una encuesta sobre la Autopercepción de Caries Dental, en
los que se contó con una población de 416 escolares de 12 años de edad, luego de la aplicación
de los criterios de selección, la muestra final quedó conformada por 387 niños que presentaron
los consentimientos y asentimientos informados respectivamente firmados. RESULTADOS: De
acuerdo a la Autopercepción de Caries la mayoría de los escolares No Perciben Caries Dental,
por otro lado en cuanto al desempeño más afectado mediante el Self Report, se encontró que
los índices más altos se presentaron en la opción Comer Alimentos y Lavarse los dientes;
además según el sexo, la Autopercepción se vio más afectada en el sexo masculino; por otra
parte en la frecuencia de impacto, la respuesta afirmativa más alta fue para la opción Comer
Alimentos en ambos sexos, y por último, de acuerdo a la severidad; esta se observó en la opción
Leve en todos los aspectos, siendo el más alto Comer Alimentos.
