- ÍtemAcceso AbiertoAblación por radiofrecuencia como tratamiento de miomas uterinos(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2024) Mingo Paucar, Evelyn Carolina; Durán Vega, Oswaldo Jair; 0105086466Uterine fibroids are the most common benign solid pelvic tumor in women and represent a significant social and health burden, affecting mainly during the reproductive age. Women with fibroids report symptoms that interfere with activities of daily living. Although there are several options for the management of this pathology, hysterectomy remains the definitive treatment; therefore, there is a growing demand for less invasive therapies that preserve the uterus and improve the quality of life, thus focusing the interest of this research on radiofrequency ablation (RFA) as a therapeutic alternative for fibroids, covering the benefits, complications and the role of this procedure in fertility. Seven studies were carefully analyzed under inclusion and exclusion criteria for development. The results demonstrate that RFA is a safe and effective procedure that significantly reduces symptoms, improves quality of life, reduces fibroid size, improves future fertility, and reduces surgical reoperation rates and adverse event
- ÍtemAcceso AbiertoAbordaje de imagen cardíaca multimodal en el diagnóstico y seguimiento de una fístula aorto-cavitaria(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Álvarez Guerrero, Paola Elizabeth; Carpio Toro, María Daniela; 0105036446Aortocaval fistulas are cardiac malformations without any worldwide incidence or prevalence data. The case is presented of a 45-year-old male patient, asymptomatic, with a 15-year history of infective endocarditis without clinical follow-up, who attended a routine check-up and was auscultated a cardiac murmur. After assessment by noninvasive cardiac imaging techniques, an aortocaval fistula associated with an anomaly at the origin of the coronary arteries was observed. The aim of the present article was to describe the usefulness of multimodal cardiac imaging in the diagnostic suspicion and confirmation of a patient with asymptomatic congenital aortocaval fistula. The use of various imaging techniques includes noninvasive studies that facilitate the diagnosis of cardiac anomalies and comprehensive patient follow-up. The surgical approach is indicated in selected cases; optimal intervention time is controversial; and follow- up, together with clinical assessment, is of great diagnostic value.
- ÍtemSolo MetadatosAbordaje diagnóstico y tratamiento del síndrome de Rendu-Osler-Weber(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Ruiz Procel, Fabricio Josue; Puente Mosquera, Karola Adriana; 0705429892Rendu-Osler-Weber syndrome, also known as hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia, is a genetic disease of autosomal dominant hereditary predominance that is characterized by the presence of arteriovenous malformations and telangiectasia lesions especially in the skin, mucous membranes, digestive tract and respiratory system. The objective of this study is to describe the diagnostic and treatment approach. These malformations can cause recurrent episodes of bleeding leading to complications, such as anemia and heart failure. Its prevalence is approximately 1 in every 5,000 people worldwide. However, due to the underdiagnosed nature of the disease, it is possible that this number underestimates its true prevalence. It is crucial to determine the most effective and safe therapeutic options for the management of this syndrome. Including pharmacological measures, surgical interventions and interventional radiology therapies. The presence of arteriovenous malformations can cause strokes or hemorrhages, which demonstrates its relevance. Early and proper diagnosis is crucial and it is important to raise awareness in the medical community and educate health professionals, to facilitate their detection and diagnosis. Research into future therapies and genetic counseling would help identify biomarkers, specific treatment targets and innovative therapeutic approaches that can improve your health and quality of life.

- ÍtemSolo MetadatosAbordaje y tratamiento de la Diabetes Mellitus tipo 2 en población pediátrica(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Vicuña Rojas, Erika Karyme; Alarcón Flores, María José; 1400787246Introduction: The review focused on the growing prevalence of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) in children and adolescents, an emerging public health issue with associated severe complications. Methodology: We used the PRISMA methodology for the search, selection, and analysis of studies in academic and medical databases. The selected studies focused on T2DM in children and adolescents, and those focusing on adults or Type 1 diabetes were excluded. Results: An alarming increase in the prevalence of T2DM in the pediatric population was found. Risk factors are similar to those of adults, but disease management is different in children. The first-line therapy, metformin, appears to be less effective in children, highlighting the need for personalized and evidence-based treatment strategies. Conclusion: T2DM in children and adolescents requires immediate attention and effective prevention and treatment strategies. The importance of family support and education in managing this condition was underscored.
- ÍtemAcceso AbiertoAbordajes psicoterapéuticos de trastornos depresivos en adolescentes.(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Avilés Fajardo, Yanileth D.; Molina Luna, Evelyn F.; Mazón Ávila, Juan P.; 1400696256; 0302988936Depression is recognized as one of the most prevalent health problems worldwide among adolescents, leading to unfortunate consequences, such as social and academic deterioration and high suicide rates. Therefore, it was necessary to explore appropriate therapeutic treatments for this condition through a descriptive literature review in indexed journals such as Elseiver, Web of Science, Mendeley, PubMed, among others. For this study, the following keywords were used: adolescents, depressive disorder, psychotherapeutic intervention, stages of development, and depressive symptoms. During the stages of adolescent development, they undergo changes that generate vulnerability to the onset of potential mental disorders like depression. The characteristics of depressive disorder were also evaluated, including suicidal ideation or planning, academic failure, low self-esteem, among others. Irritability emerged as a prominent symptom in the diagnosis of adolescent depression. In conclusion, the most effective therapeutic treatment for this problem was identified as interpersonal and cognitive-behavioral therapy, according to the study findings.
- ÍtemAcceso AbiertoAbordajes psicoterapéuticos en adultos con consumo problemático de cannabis(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2024) Peñarreta Matute , Ronald; Roldán Vásquez , Irma; Betancourtt Aguilera , Marcia; 0105802813; 0104636519The issue related to cannabis consumption in adults has been the subject of research within the field of psychotherapy. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime report stated that cannabis is the most consumed drug worldwide, with a significant increase in its prevalence from 3.8% in 2010 to 8% in 2020. According to the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission, approximately 1% of the population in Ecuador consumes this substance. Similarly, the Pan American Health Organization states that the relationship with drug-consuming peers is a predictive factor for drug addiction in adults, regardless of family and individual factors. This research aimed to understand psychotherapeutic approaches in adults with problematic cannabis consumption. A literature review was conducted in the main PsycInfo and PubMed databases by evaluating experimental and comparative studies. Randomized trials with control groups were used, and articles with low methodological quality were excluded. As a result, it was found that the most effective healing treatment included cognitive-behavioral therapy, emphasizing first and second-generation techniques. Other successful strategies included motivational interviewing and relapse prevention. Brief therapies demonstrated benefits similar to long-term therapies, and individual therapies were more effective than group ones.
