Ítem Acceso Abierto Accesibilidad universal en el espacio público: la inclusión de personas con discapacidad física en el Parque Sagitario(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2025) Nuñez Vasquez, Domenica Nicole; Espinoza Iñiguez, Enma Alexandra; 0106435944Universal accessibility in public spaces remains a challenge in urban planning, affecting the quality of life of people with disabilities. This study aims to propose design strategies to improve accessibility in Parque Sagitario, located in Cuenca, Ecuador, a recreational space with deficiencies in pathways, urban furniture, signage, and internal connectivity. A mixed-methods approach was adopted to analyze the issue. Document analysis provided a review of accessibility regulations and references. Field observations helped identify physical barriers, while surveys and interviews with users, including people with disabilities, offered key insights into their needs. Additionally, social mapping and spatial analysis facilitated the identification of difficulties and the definition of interventions. The results include a single-level design, the implementation of pedestrian crossings to eliminate barriers, inclusive furniture, and multipurpose courts, promoting an accessible and equitable environment. It identifies architectural barriers within the infrastructure that restrict direct access for individuals with special needs. This research highlights the importance of providing equal educational opportunities for everyone, promoting social inclusion, and complying with current accessibility regulations. The study thoroughly diagnoses the area under examination and presents specific rehabilitation measures. The benefits of this project are social, as it promotes the integration of all students within the institution and can serve as a model for future initiatives in other educational centers. The main objective is to evaluate the accessibility of the spaces and propose strategies to address the identified deficiencies. The methodology follows a descriptive exploratory approach, using a representative model to analyze the most significant findings in detail.
