Ítem Acceso Abierto Wolff Parkinson white pediátrico: reporte de caso(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2024) Panamá Chica, Miguel Santiago; Merchán Bustos, Fabián Andrés; 0106340276Background: Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome is characterized as a cardiac anomaly that affects 0.15% to 0.3% of the pediatric population, presenting supraventricular tachycardia as the most common symptomatology, which, when persisting, can trigger sudden death. Case description: A 7-year-old female patient with a history of obesity and prematurity constantly presents symptoms of sudden onset precordial pain, cyanosis, and heart rate on an electrocardiogram of 300 beats per minute when playing sports or at rest. Despite being treated with verapamil, these symptoms recurred, and she was referred to a more complex hospital for cardiology evaluation. During her evaluation, the electrophysiological study showed a pre-excitation pattern compatible with occult Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome and fused atrioventricular potentials at the posterolateral level of the mitral annulus. Conclusion: Ablation is the best treatment for Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, and a timely diagnosis would help to improve the quality of life of patients, avoiding sudden death in the worst case.
