Ítem Acceso Abierto Revisión bibliográfica sobre los beneficios de la actividad física y sedentarismo en la población universitaria(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2024) Huambandi Kankua, Aylis Yulissa; Jarrin Navas , Santiago Alejandro; 1401106727Introduction: One of the primary issues among university students is sedentary behavior due to a lack of physical activity (PA) caused by academic demands, excessive use of technological devices, lack of concentration, and reluctance to leave their sedentary comfort zone. Objective: To conduct a systematic review through digital databases to understand the benefits of physical activity in university students. Methodology: This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive scope and a systematic review. Articles were selected from various databases such as Redalyc, Scopus, Google Scholar, and SciELO. Results: Literature sources published from 2011 to 2024 were analyzed. In the first stage, 56 documents were identified, of which 22 were excluded for not meeting the criteria, while 19 articles were selected since they met the inclusion criteria. Various studies consider that PA is very beneficial for the quality of life of university students. Conclusion: PA provides physical and psychological benefits to university students by helping reduce cardiovascular diseases, achieve a healthy weight, and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Additionally, PA supports physical development and reduces depression, anxiety, stress, and worry. Moreover, it contributes to better academic performance.
