The reproduction of these birds is associated with a natural behavior; however, the genetic variety of these birds does not enable standardizing some processes that provide higher performances. Royal Jelly is a compound rich in nutrients and micronutrients, some of which are beneficial and others potentially toxic. The use of reproductive biotechnologies offers an alternative for this purpose. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of adding Royal Jelly as an alternative for cryopreservation. Seminal samples were extracted from 4 roosters by dorsal- abdominal massage and then evaluated against doses of 0.25%, 0.50%, 0.75%, and 1.00% of Jelly, in 5 repetitions. Considering the unpromising results of these doses, a lower one of 0.025% was added, which showed less severe effects, after evaluating the permeability and integrity of the membrane; thus, the cryopreservation of rooster sperm with Royal Jelly has various biochemical factors such as the effect of 10-hydroxy-2-decenoic acid or methodological factors such as the sperm stabilization time. that need to be further studied to justify their negative effects. However, as there is no specific literature on the subject, this research provides a basis for concluding that Royal Jelly has lethal and sublethal effects on backyard rooster sperm.
