Ítem Acceso Abierto Paquete de cuidados para la prevención de infecciones del torrente sanguíneo asociadas a catéter venoso central(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Rosero Avila, Diana Patricia; Mesa Cano, Isabel Cristina; 0104194698Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) are a serious public health problem, with adverse events occurring in hospitalized patients, particularly in intensive care units (ICUs). Central venous catheter-associated bloodstream infections are associated with increased length of hospital stays, mortality, and healthcare costs. Objective: To describe the care bundle for the prevention of central line-associated bloodstream infections through a systematic review. Methods: The present research is a literature review performed by searching for original documents published in different scientific bases such as Scopus, Redalyc, SciELO, Elsevier, Medigraphic, Medline, ScienceDirect, PubMed, in English, Portuguese and Spanish languages from 2018 to 2022. Results: Cultural change around quality improvement requires consistent and sustained action for its sustainability. Chlorhexidine 2% solution is more effective than povidone-iodine 10% solution in reducing the incidence of central catheter-associated infections. Conclusions: Central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI) usually results from nonadherence to standardized healthcare procedures but can be prevented by evidence-based practices such as the multistep bundle intervention. Adherence to more than 90% of all elements contributes to the elimination of CLABSI. Therefore, they should be implemented as a routine protocol.
