One of the main public health problems in both developed and developing countries are overweight and obesi1y, which is a risk factor for the rising of chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and other diseases in adulthood, so it is important to prevent, detect and treat it in time. The main objective of this s1udy is to know the levels of overweight and obesi1y in the students of the Unitec Discovery School of Elementary Education through the determination of tbc body mass index. Non -experimental research was developed with a descriptive scope and a qualitative cross-sec1ional approach. 48 s1uden1s from 9 to 16 years of age were studied. Their age, gender, weight, and height were recorded and the body mass index formula was applied to obtain their body fat. The main results show a prevalence of 38% of the population is overweigh1; 6% of the population is obese; notably, 56% of the students have a normal weight within the acceptable range. Finally, both genders predominate overweight, obesity, and high levels of body fat, which are long-term risk factors.
