Ítem Acceso Abierto Síndrome de insuficiencia respiratoria aguda por atresia congénita de coanas(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Sandoval Méndez, Edgar Geovanny; Garcés Ortega, Juan Pablo; 0104635529; ., .Introduction: Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) due to congenital choanal atresia is a medical condition that presents significant challenges in pediatrics and otolaryngology. This pathology, characterized by obstruction of the posterior choanae, represents a critical condition compromising the patients' respiratory function from birth. Objective: To establish the clinical presentation of ARDS due to congenital choanal atresia to improve patients' medical care and quality of life. Methodology: A systematic review was conducted to compile studies indexed in the last seven years in English and Spanish. Results: It was determined that immediate surgery maintains a significantly higher success rate in primary treatment compared to late surgery for bilateral choanal atresia, and the accuracy in diagnosing ARDS was affected by differences in the interpretation of chest images. Conclusion: Strategies should be defined to improve consistency in radiological interpretation. Using nasal stents was mentioned to improve nasal airflow as an alternative method to surgical intervention and nasopharyngeal airway devices.
