- ÍtemAcceso AbiertoAnálisis de ladrillos ecológicos fabricados con suelo limo-arenoso, cemento, viruta y papel en base a resistencia, costo y deformación(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2018) Campoverde Bustos, Franklin Mauricio; Nieto Cárdenas, Jaime Xavier; 0301670378; ., .The manufacturing processes of traditional bricks cause a negative impact on the environment. This graduation work details the manufacturing process of ecological-bricks done by using silty soil, portland cement, wood-remains and bond paper, then they go through a compressive-strength test in order to determinate their hardness, and evaluate their disfigurement, in other words, how their shape changes or adapts. Later they will be analyzed to decide which dosage obtains better results. To achieve this, a quantitative-experimental-descriptive approach is needed that clearly demonstrates the procedure used for the dosages of the materials, the compressive-strength tests and the calculation of the unit prices of the bricks. It was shown that bricks with a percentage of 40% and 50% of wood-leftovers managed to overcome the compressive strength of a traditional brick in 28% and 22% respectively. Besides this, they have the capability to deform themselves while receiving weight which differences them from a traditional brick that fractures, however, despite the superiority in compressive strength and disfigurement, their cost is higher than traditional bricks.
- ÍtemAcceso AbiertoAnálisis de las propiedades mecánicas de bloques de hormigón con fibras de cabuya(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2018) Neira Neira, William Patricio; Nieto Cárdenas, Jaime Xavier; 0302244561; ., .The purpose of this study is to contribute to the information on the mechanical properties of concrete blocks developed on the basis of a mixture of cement, water, aggregates, and the addition of the Fiber of Cabuya, materials were obtanied within the province of Cañar, the percentages of addition of cabuya fiber in the concrete were 3, 6 and 9% in relation to the mass of the cement used in the mix. The results of the tests according to the standard NTE INEN 3066 degree in this work reveal that the specimens with the addition of 3% Fiber of Cabuya achieves an improvement in the resistance to compression of 35% in comparison with the traditional block, in addition to the results of the tests show that the greater the amount of fiber best are the results of absorption, density and moisture content. It is also conducted studies of the aggregates as sieve analysis, absorption and moisture content, in order to determine if they comply with the regulations in force for the mix design.

- ÍtemAcceso AbiertoEstudio comparativo entre estructuras de acero con y sin arriostramiento lateral(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2018) Amoroso Romero, Diana Estefanía; Nieto Cárdenas, Jaime Xavier; 0302881917; ., .This research was carried out according to the occurrence of earthquakes of great seismic magnitude with the purpose of presenting finished solutions for Azogues city in Ecuador, which must consist with an adequate functioning and also be structures at a low cost. First, the design of the mathematical models of the buildings with moment-resistant frames and with braced frames was made using Excel spreadsheets to find each one of the design requests. Then it was analyzed in a detailed way that they accomplish with all design parameters. Also, the pattern using the Structural Software for Building Analysis and Design (ETABS) was done with which we can verify displacements in each of the structures. In addition to reviewing the deformations of the gantries when they are already subject to gravitational and earthquake loads. Right after it was necessary to make the designs including the criteria of the Ecuadorian Construction Standard, analyzing first the effective length in moment-resistant frames and after the analysis of the knots was made considering that there are strong columns and weak pillars generating in the same way that all the parameters of the design are done and after that carrying out its modeling and demonstrating the deformations and displacements suffered by the structures when subjected to the loads with which they work both horizontally and vertically. After obtaining the buildings that meet the design requirements, comparisons were made between them establishing relationships between the weights and the displacements of each one in order to determine which of the designs made was the best option as to construction costs and in mathematical design for its construction site. Then all the structures were analyzed, it was announced which of the designs was the most efficient, the same that meets all the required criteria mentioned in the objectives, it means that the building considered as the best option is economical and safe, so it can be built in Azogues city, therefore the current investigation was carried out.
- ÍtemAcceso AbiertoHormigones autocompactantes con áridos de la provincia del Azuay sector Paute y Santa Isabel(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2018) López Buri, Raúl Mauricio; Nieto Cárdenas, Jaime Xavier; 0302308531; ., .Self-compacting concrete (SAC) is a highly fluid concrete, it fills all the spaces of the formwork, has the ability to pass through high amounts of steel by which conventional concrete cannot reach, therefore no requires no type of compaction, but the mixture must be extremely cohesive; thus giving excellent and favorable results. There are technical specifications from EFNARC and ACI, describing similar procedures to analyze and verify the characteristics that must be meet a freshly mixed self-compacting concrete; furthermore, for the dosage of this concrete there are only tables of proportions of the materials for the manufacture of HAC to which they should be adjusted. Before manufacturing the HAC, there were flaws in the structures built with concrete due to poor compaction and poor hand quality work, causing damage and low durability of the concrete, for this reason it was created this type of concrete to guarantee self-compacting without the need mechanical compaction and workers. At the moment in the region there is a partial ignorance of concrete studied, but in the world there have been applications of HAC presenting good results; However, in the present work carrying out studies and investigations, it has been determined that the materials used for the designs of experienced concrete, they are able to make concrete self-compacting, but taking into account the specifications given for these concretes. 210kg/cm², 240 kg/cm² and 300 kg/cm² resistance concretes were designed with Azuay aggregates, a type III cement (distinguished for presenting high resistance to early ages), highly reducing additives of water and in turn drinking water; These concretes comply with the tests that characterize concretes self-compacting The resistance tests were carried out from cylinders of concrete at 28 days of age. In the end, all the results of validated designs were collected as well as of designs rejected, in addition to the evaluation of the costs of self-compacting concrete in relation to conventional concrete and conclusions were presented.
- ÍtemEmbargoMortero para refuerzo de mampostería en viviendas informales(Universidad Católica de Cuenca., 2023) Castro Castillo, Matías Renato; Nieto Cárdenas, Jaime Xavier; 0105456222; .This article focuses on assessing the resistance of mortars to indirect tension and compression, simple and reinforced with different percentages of steel fiber. The aim is to find resistant and cost-effective solutions to reinforce informal housing with a high degree of structural vulnerability. Firstly, the resistance to indirect tension and displacements supported by simple and reinforced mortars are compared; it is observed that reinforced mortars offer higher resistance and capacity to deform; the more the percentage of fiber is varied, the more these characteristics increase. Then, the compressive strength is compared, and reinforced mortars show satisfactory results. In terms of cost, reinforced mortar presents disadvantages due to the expense of fibers. In the percentages studied in this article (10,15,20 and 25%), reinforced mortar usage for informal housing does not seem so striking; it is recommended to conduct similar research with different percentages of fiber.
