This disorder is the key pattern for developing most chronic diseases, the main reasons for mortality. The ketogenic diet is characterized by a marked restriction of carbohydrates with an increase in fats and proteins, for years it has been recommended as a treatment for neurological disorders, however, it is currently an effective and widely used tool since it not only has effects on control of lipids and glycemia, but also contributes to rapid loss of body weight in patients with obesity, and benefits have even been seen in patients with "type 2 diabetes mellitus", "non-alcoholic fatty liver disease", "mild kidney disease", polycystic ovarian syndrome, endometrial cancer, etc. The duration of the ketogenic diet in each patient continues to cause controversy and uncertainty, however, in this bibliographic review, in most cases, short-term side effects are not evident, so it is considered a safe therapeutic option in these periods, without However, the long-term side effects are unknown. In addition, poor adherence to this treatment option due to its low percentage of carbohydrates and its high costs, leads patients to opt for different approaches with which they can lead a better lifestyle.
