The Ecuadorian penitentiary system is undergoing a deep crisis characterized by uncontrollable cases of violence and murders that have extended beyond prison walls, spreading fear throughout society and manifesting in extreme violence within the prisons. The research will focus on analyzing the causes of this problem and its impact on the violation of the right to personal integrity of the persons deprived of liberty (PDL) at the Social Rehabilitation Center of Cuenca. Through qualitative research with a descriptive-analytical approach, and based on a documentary review of legal doctrine, jurisprudence, and scientific evidence, this study aims to identify not only the causes of violence but also the shortcomings of the prison and social rehabilitation system at regional and national levels. Finally, as a contribution, it proposes improvements to the comprehensive protection measures for PDL that limit the cases of intra-prison violence to make the penitentiary system more efficient and safe.
