Supermanzana como alternativa de habitabilidad para el Sector 9 de Octubre de la Ciudad de Cuenca

Abstract

The Historic Center of Cuenca is facing a set of housing problems, including excessive vehicle use, lack of green areas, informal vending, centralism around Parque Calderón (Calderon Park), and a shortage of recreational areas, which contribute to the isolation of the community and the migration of older adults. These challenges are suggested to be addressed through a case study that begins with a diagnosis and analysis of the current situation using tabulation of data obtained from the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses of Ecuador 2010 (INEC by its Spanish acronym) and a photographic record of this situation. Furthermore, conducting a land use assessment and gathering information on superblocks is suggested. It is vital to update the original 2010 study with recent data up to 2024 before moving forward with the urban design proposal at the design level, which seeks to improve the livability of the historic center, addressing aspects such as land use, population density, green areas, urban mobility, and facilities.
