Abstract

This article addresses the figure of self-employment by the State and autonomous governments. This research aimed to demonstrate that self-employed workers in Cañar Canton are neither guaranteed the right to work recognized in the Constitution of the Republic of Ecuador nor the social security and principles of equality. In terms of methodology, the study was conducted from a qualitative approach through bibliographic references, using an inductive-deductive method with a non-experimental bibliographic documentary design. The aim was to investigate the lack of guarantees forto the rights of self-employed workers to determine the deficits. The history and significance of selfemployed workers were identified. The importance and benefits of social security were analyzed regarding contributions, health, and retirement. Finally, the current ordinances and measures taken by the state in favor of self-employed workers were examined.
