Tratamiento ortopédico del disyuntor en abanico y máscara facial en paciente con labio paladar fisurado unilateral. Reporte de un caso.

Abstract

Cleft lip and palate is a congenital craniofacial malformation caused by the deficiency of joints during embryonic development. It may occur due to a mixture of environmental and genetic conditions or any of these individually. The World Health Organization establishes that approximately 1 in every 500 to 700 newborns suffer from congenital facial defects, damaging the patients’ physical-facial, social, and psychological well-being, developing trauma or complexes that cause low self-esteem. The objective of this clinical case was to report on the orthopedic treatment of the facial mask and fan disjunctor in a patient with a non-syndromic unilateral cleft lip and palate with Class III malocclusion, a -5 mm protrusion, and bilateral posterior crossbite. After seven months of therapy, maxillary and 0 mm protrusion were reached. Conclusion: The results will depend on the patient’s age, the severity of the cleft lip and palate, and the patient's degree of cooperation with the treatment.
