Cuello de cisne secundario a Mallet Finger bilateral

Abstract

Mallet finger is a deformity that occurs on the finger due to an injury to the extensor tendon zone I, resulting in the loss of the distal interphalangeal extension. It occurs in people who practice sports such as basketball, rugby, and volleyball. When the injury is acute, conservative and surgical treatments have favorable results. Nevertheless, failure or absence of these types of treatment entails more severe injuries and deformities with partial loss of function of the affected finger joint. The case of a 42-year-old male patient with a history of axial trauma of the right and left little finger was reported with 10 and 5 years of evolution, respectively, without prior treatment. He attends the doctor because of pain, functional limitation, DIP and PIP blockings, and deformity of the little finger of both hands. After performing the physical and radiographic examination, a swan neck deformity secondary to a bilateral Mallet finger was diagnosed. Thus, this case report is highlighted due to its particularity since the bilateral condition does not frequently occur. Based on the diagnosis, it was decided to perform the surgical approach to correct the swan neck deformity using the bilateral palmaris longus (PL) tendon graft through the WALANT technique. The interventions were adequately performed. However, the recovery of the two fingers was different as the lesions had different evolution times.
