Protocolo para la evaluación funcional del paciente ortodóntico de la Universidad Católica de Cuenca sede Azogues

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To design a protocol for the functional evaluation of the orthodontic patient of the Catholic University of Cuenca, Azogues headquarters. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The present study is framed within a quantitative-qualitative approach, descriptive design and documentary cutting, using the survey technique; The population was made up of expert teachers in the area of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry who work within the Dental Clinic of the Catholic University of Cuenca and Azogues Headquarters, which constitute a representative sample for this research and validation of the protocol is made up of a group of 16 judges, experts and national and international specialists, in the area of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry. RESULTS: The protocol will help in the clinical assessment of oral functions with 90%, contributes to the unification of criteria by teachers with 95%, and contributes to the development of a correct diagnosis and adequate therapeutic planning with 95 %, in addition the proposed tests were the Glatzel Test with 94%, the Gudin nasal reflex with 72% and the Rosenthal test with 83%, free observation in 83%, lip manipulation with 55.5%, type of chewing with 61%, test of the functional masticatory angle Flat with 27.7%, pronunciation of phonemes with 94%, these experts were made up of 18 teachers active in the areas of study mentioned above, since two were excluded due to lack of colaboration. CONCLUSIONS: The aspects that include the need for the design of this protocol are the clinical evaluation, the benefit of the unification of criteria and the elaboration of the correct diagnosis and the adequate therapeutic planning. Clinical protocols arise from the best possible scientific evidence, and this is the most appropriate form for clinical practice. The clinical criteria to be used in the dental clinic are based on the use of different tests to clinically assess the functions of breathing, swallowing, chewing, and phonation. According to the protocol validation, all articles were approved within the established level. A total concordance of the seven items is shown.
