Blanqueamiento con peróxido al 37% vs blanqueamiento casero controlado

Abstract

In this case report, two types of tooth whitening procedures are described and compared: hydrogen peroxide bleaching and controlled home bleaching. The first procedure was performed in a dental office on a 23-year-old patient who was dissatisfied with his/her teeth color and had an extensive bacterial plaque in the mandible on clinical examination. The treatment started with a prophylaxis to be followed by a bleaching procedure with 37% peroxide in pieces 1.1-1.5, 2.1-2.5, 3.1-3.5, 4.1-4.5. The first application resulted in two shades lighter than the initial shade, and the second application resulted in one shade lighter. In the second case study, a controlled home whitening was performed on a 22-year- old patient who mentioned that a few months ago the color of his/her teeth began to change and requested a painless whitening treatment; in this case, there were no irregularities in the clinical examination performed. In this treatment, the first step was prophylaxis; impressions were taken to make the acetate tray and the patient was instructed on how to use it, which consisted of applying 15% hydrogen peroxide to each tooth of the tray for 1 hour. Changes were observed in the first week, obtaining one lighter shade, and in the second week, two lighter shades. The patient was very satisfied with the treatment as she/he was looking for a painless method of teeth whitening.
