Resumen
INTRODUCTION: At the end of 2019 the spread of a new virus aroused panic in the population
worldwide, with health personnel being the most affected, within this group the most vulnerable
are dentists and oral surgeons due to the nature of their profession; The objective of this work
was to carry out a bibliographic review on the new norms and protocols that the dental surgeon
should adopt in their consultation against COVID-19. INSTUMENTS AND METHODS OF DATA
COLLECTION: A descriptive study was carried out, a bibliographic review through Scopus,
Google Scholar, Scielo and The International Journal of Odontostomatology of journal articles,
letters to the editor and web pages with reliable information, looking for new strategies and
protocols of care for the care of oral surgeons in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. FINDINGS:
The bibliographic search took approximately one year, due to the little information that was initially
available on this topic, applying the selection criteria, 44 articles were obtained that were divided
into: origin and characteristics of SARS COV2, history of oral surgery and biosafety protocols in
order to develop an adequate system for the care of oral surgeons against this virus.
CONCLUSION: Due to the high risk of contamination, oral and maxillofacial surgeons have the
obligation to adhere strictly to the biosafety protocols that the authorities have created to avoid
possible infections.

INTRODUCCIÓN: A finales del año 2019 la propagación de un nuevo virus despertó pánico en la
población a nivel mundial, siendo el personal de salud los más afectados, dentro de este grupo
los más vulnerables son los odontólogos y cirujanos orales debido a la naturaleza de su
profesión; el objetivo de este trabajo fue realizar una revisión bibliográfica sobre las nuevas
normas y protocolos que el cirujano dentista debería adoptar en su consulta frente al COVID-19.
MATERIALES Y MÉTODOS: Se realizó un estudio de tipo descriptivo mediante una revisión
bibliográfica a través de Scopus, Google Scholar, Scielo y The International Journal of
Odontostomatology de artículos de revistas, cartas al editor y páginas web con información
confiable, buscando nuevas estrategias y protocolos de atención para el cuidado de los cirujanos
orales frente a la pandemia de COVID-19. RESULTADOS: La búsqueda bibliográfica tuvo un
tiempo aproximado de un año, debido a la poca información que hubo en un inicio sobre este
tema, aplicando los criterios de selección se obtuvieron 44 artículos que se dividieron en: origen
y características del SARS COV2, historia de la cirugía oral y protocolos de bioseguridad con la
finalidad de elaborar un sistema adecuado para el cuidado de los cirujanos orales frente a este
virus. CONCLUSIÓN: Debido al alto riesgo de contaminación, los cirujanos orales y
máxilofaciales tienen la obligación de sujetarse de manera estricta a los protocolos de
bioseguridad que las autoridades han creado para evitar posibles contagios
