Piramidalismo post accidente cerebro vascular isquémico idiopático: reporte de caso

Abstract

The mortality rate of patients who have suffered an ischemic stroke is high, but the rate of patients with neurological and motor sequelae due to focal brain injury is even higher. Patients who survive the encephalic ischemia produced by focal brain injury need chronic care to recover or at least compensate for the motor and sensory functions that deteriorated during the accident. The diagnosis must be accompanied by clinical and imaging findings in order to provide effective and immediate treatment. The following is the case of a 60-year-old male patient, who at the age of 46 years and during the early hours of the morning suffers a cerebrovascular accident. On physical examination at the time of admission the patient presented left cerebral ischemic syndrome accompanied by motor aphasia and right hemiplegia. A simple axial computed tomography of the skull ruled out hemorrhage, and antithrombotic therapy was initiated. Immediate treatment allows a very favorable evolution of the patients, even reducing the neurological sequelae secondary to the disease.
