dc.descriptionBJETIVO. Determinar la necesidad de tratamiento endodóntico, en los niños de 12 años de edad del cantón Azogues - Ecuador 2018. METODOLOGÍA. El estudio tuvo un enfoque cuantitativo, el diseño de estudio fue descriptivo, de corte transversal, el tipo de investigación fue observacional, la muestra estuvo constituida por 303 escolares de 12 años de las escuelas urbanas del Cantón Azogues, el instrumento utilizado fue el índice PUFA. La muestra fue de tipo probabilístico de modo aleatorio realizando un cálculo muestral mediante el programa OPEN EPI con un nivel de confiabilidad del 95% y un mínimo error de 5% RESULTADOS. Fueron expresados en porcentajes el 14.8% presento necesidad de tratamiento endodóntico evaluada mediante el índice PUFA, la mayor proporción fue del sexo femenino 51%, en relación a las afecciones inmersas en el instrumento utilizado la mayor prevalencia fue para pulpitis con 67% mientras que para ulcera 2%, además la fistula un porcentaje del 7 % y en abscesos en un 24%. de acuerdo a la entidad educativa, con mayor afección estuvo para la privada con 53%. El diente más afectado fue el primer molar superior 68%. CONCLUSIONES. Existió una baja prevalencia de necesidad de tratamiento endodóntico, pero que a su vez refleja un requerimiento para brindar atención oportuna a los escolares y puedan mejorar su calidad de vida.es_ES
dc.description.abstractOBJECTIVE. To determine the need for endodontic treatment, in the children of 12 years of age of the city Azogues – Ecuador in 2018. METHODOLOGY. The study had a quantitative approach, the design of the study was descriptive, cross-sectional, the type of research was observational, the sample was constituted by 303 schoolchildren of 12 years of the urban schools of the city Azogues, the instrument used was the PUFA index. The sample was probabilistic in a randomized manner, performing a sample calculation using the OPEN EPI program with a confidence level of 95% and a minimum error of 5%. RESULTS. Were expressed in percentages, 14.8% presented the need for endodontic treatment evaluated by the PUFA index, the highest proportion was female 51%, in relation to the conditions immersed in the instrument used, the highest prevalence was for pulpitis with 67% while for ulcer 2%, also fistula a percentage of 7% and in abscesses by 24%. According to the educational institution, with greater affection was for the private with 53%. The most affected tooth was the first 68% upper molar. CONCLUSIONS. There was a low prevalence of need for endodontic treatment, but that in turn reflects a requirement to provide timely attention to schoolchildren and improve their quality of life.es_ES
