“Conocimiento de anticonceptivos y sexualidad en estudiantes universitarios de Medicina durante período abril-agosto, 2021”

Abstract

Antecedents: Contraception is the set of practices based on the use of CAM, to avoid unwanted pregnancy. The WHO in 2019 points out that 18% of young people between 18 and 25 years old are unaware of it. PAHO states that the most widely used CAM in fertile women is the IUD and in men the barrier method. The MSP of Ecuador developed in 2020, a congress on family and reproductive planning in order to reach its highest level, through the application of reproductive rights, whose sexual and reproductive health plan is formed by the strategies, double protection and family planning. Objective: To identify the degree of knowledge about contraceptive methods and sexuality in medical university students, academic period April-August 2021. Methodology: Non-experimental, census, cross-sectional and quantitative study, with a population of 309 university students. The analysis of the database was carried out with the SPSS V20 program. Results: From the total number of students who participated, 196 considered they had good knowledge about MAC, and 140 preferred condoms; however, 30% do not use MACs. The male sex is 39% (PR 1.39: 95% CI 0.60-0.84) more likely not to use them, while age, ethnicity, residence, marital status and religion are not significant. In addition, those who reported using any CAM with the exception of condoms were 97% more likely to not use these methods adequately.
