dc.descriptionObjetivo: Determinar la necesidad de tratamiento periodontal en pacientes adultos fumadores que acuden al Hospital General Homero Castanier Crespo (H.H.C.C) en Azogues periodo 2018. Materiales y Métodos: la presente investigación fue un estudio observacional descriptivo transversal realizado en 70 pacientes entre 18 a 60 años, en la ciudad de Azogues, Ecuador. Se empleó el índice de detección y registro periodontal (PSR) el cual nos indica la necesidad de un tratamiento periodontal y además se aplicó a los pacientes una encuesta validada llamada Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GTSS), la encuesta tuvo como objetivo determinar si los pacientes fueron fumadores o no fumadores, los datos fueron transferidos a una hoja de Excel y luego analizados estadísticamente. Resultados: en este estudio el 94.29% de los pacientes mostraron una condición periodontal alterada, siendo el sexo masculino el más afectado con un 52,9%, en cuanto a los grupos etarios los pacientes entre 46 a 60 años presentaron un índice PSR de 4 con un 53% y en lo referente al efecto tabaquismo en los tejidos periodontales, se observó que los pacientes fumadores presentaron mayor afectación periodontal con código PSR de 3, mientras que los pacientes no fumadores presentaron un PSR de 2. Conclusión: se concluyó que la mayoría de pacientes que acuden al H.H.C.C requieren tratamiento periodontal, donde, se observó que al incrementar la edad aumenta la necesidad de tratamiento periodontal completo, presentando índice PSR4 y al presentarse el hábito fumar incrementa la necesidad tratamiento periodontal con raspado y alisado radicular presentando índice PSR3.es_ES
dc.description.abstractObjective: To determine the need for periodontal treatment in adult smoking patients who come to the General Hospital Homero Castanier Crespo (H.H.C.C) in Azogues period 2018. Materials and Methods: the present investigation was a transversal descriptive observational study carried out in 70 patients between 18 and 60 years old, in the city of Azogues, Ecuador. The periodontal detection and registration index (PSR) was used, which indicates the need for periodontal treatment. In addition, a validated survey called the Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GTSS) was applied to patients; the survey aimed to determine whether patients were smokers or non-smokers, the data was transferred to an Excel sheet and then analyzed statistically. Results: in this study, 94.29% of the patients showed an altered periodontal condition, being the male sex the most affected with 52.9%, in the age groups the patients between 46 to 60 years had a PSR index of 4 with 53% and with regard to the smoking effect in the periodontal tissues, it was observed that the smokers presented greater periodontal involvement with a PSR code of 3, while the non-smoking patients had a PSR of 2. Conclusion: it was concluded that the majority of patients who attend the HHCC require periodontal treatment, where, it was observed that increasing age increases the need for complete periodontal treatment, presenting a PSR4 index and when the habit arises smoking increases the need for periodontal treatment with scraping and root planing presenting PSR3 index.es_ES
