Liposarcoma Mixoide Gigante De Glúteo Derecho: Reporte De Caso

Abstract

Giant myxoid liposarcoma of the right gluteus is a rare neoplasm that represents a clinical challenge due to its size and unusual location. This report contributes to the medical literature due to the rarity of the tumor in this anatomical location and the need for multidisciplinary management. This study presented the case of a 29-year-old male patient with an asymptomatic progressively growing mass in the right gluteal region, which began to cause discomfort when sitting and walking. MRI revealed a 19 x 13 x 14.5 cm mass in the right gluteus medius muscle, with no evidence of bone involvement, and the biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of giant myxoid liposarcoma. Complete excision was performed through open surgery, obtaining negative margins, and the patient was discharged without postoperative complications, with an indication for follow-up for adjuvant radiotherapy. The main lesson is the importance of early diagnosis and complete surgical intervention to reduce the risk of recurrence in patients with myxoid liposarcoma. This report emphasizes the need for a comprehensive approach that includes long-term oncological follow-up to optimize patient outcomes and quality of life.
