dc.description	El vitíligo se caracteriza por la pérdida de melanocitos evidenciada por máculas de color claro que promueven la alteración en la uniformidad del tono de la piel, varias son las teorías e hipótesis asociadas a la patogenia mismas que imposibilitan esquemas de tratamiento adecuados para dicha afección. Objetivo: Caracterizar los principales mecanismos que intervienen en la aparición del vitíligo, a partir de una revisión bibliográfica de la literatura durante el periodo 2000 – 2020 Metodología: La metodología empleada fue de tipo documental bibliográfico basado en la recopilación de información con referente a los mecanismos que intervienen en la aparición del vitíligo a partir de las bases de datos cientifícas. Resultados: La disminución de la capacidad de los melanocitos para producir melanina se relacionan con factores genéticos, estrés oxidativo, intervención del sistema inmune aunado a ello diversas hipótesis aún en fase de investigación. Sin embargo, se denota la relación directa con afecciones dermatológicas como alopecia, leucotriquia, poliosis, canas prematuras y psoriasis. Conclusiones: El vitíligo se caracteriza por la aparición de máculas acromáticas en la piel, las membranas mucosas o ambas, aunque es conocida desde hace muchos años, su causa no se ha esclarecido por completo y actualmente se consideran varios mecanismos o hipótesis, lo cual se asocia con la falta de terapias efectivas que logren la repigmentación total en los pacientes.	es_ES
dc.description.abstract	Vitiligo is characterized by the loss of melanocytes evidenced by light-colored macules that promote the alteration in the uniformity of skin tone. There are several theories and hypotheses associated with the pathogenesis that make it impossible to develop adequate treatment schemes for this condition. Objective: To characterize the main mechanisms involved in the appearance of vitiligo, based on a bibliographic review of the literature during the period 2000 - 2020. Methodology: The methodology used was of bibliographic documentary type based on the compilation of information regarding the mechanisms involved in the appearance of vitiligo from scientific databases. Results: The decrease in the capacity of melanocytes to produce melanin is related to genetic factors, oxidative stress, the intervention of the immune system, and several hypotheses still under investigation. However, the direct relationship with dermatological conditions such as alopecia, leukonychia, poliosis, premature graying, and psoriasis is denoted. Conclusions: Vitiligo is characterized by the appearance of achromatic macules on the skin, mucous membranes, or both, although it has been known for many years, its cause has not been completely clarified and currently several mechanisms or hypotheses are considered, which is associated with the lack of effective therapies that achieve total re pigmentation in patients.	es_ES
