Relación entre COVID-19 con el desarrollo de enfermedades autoinmunes

Abstract

Currently, there are a large number of people diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2, drawing attention to the appearance of some diseases of autoimmune origin after exposure to this infection. Their association is believed to be due to mechanisms that include molecular mimicry, autoantibodies, and stimulation of inflammatory signaling. The objective of this narrative review is to identify the relationship of COVID-19 with the development of autoimmune diseases. After reviewing updated information, it is concluded that the main mechanisms involved in the development of autoimmunity after SARS-CoV-2 infection includes molecular mimicry, the presence of autoantibodies, and the cytokine storm typical of the COVID-19 disease. The autoimmune diseases with which a direct relationship was established: Guillan-Barré syndrome, autoimmune encephalitis, Graves' disease, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, autoimmune thrombocytopenic purpura and vasculitis, however, more studies are required to support this relationship
