“Sobrecarga del cuidador de pacientes en Cuidados Paliativos en, Biblián y Déleg enero - marzo 2023”

Abstract

Palliative care is active care for patients with diseases that do not respond to therapeutic and curative treatments; these alleviate sick people suffering through early identification and assessment of pain. The caregiver is the one who performs these activities mentioned above. Objective: To determine the excess of work of people in charge of these patients in Biblián and Déleg cantons from January to March 2023. Methodology: A quantitative, descriptive, correlational, cross-sectional research was conducted, the sample was 102 caregivers, and the instrument used was the Zarit test containing 22 Likert-type questions. Results: The findings reflect that 86.3% of caregivers were women, 68.6% live in Biblián, and 31.4% in Déleg, 49% had secondary education, and 38.2% were married. The average age was 42 years (SD=12.62). Regarding the patient's disease, 41.2% had type 2 diabetes. Most of them presented a mild overload of work, 42.2%. The place where they live was slightly correlated with the excess of work (0.048 p). Conclusion: It was concluded that the caregiver overwork is mild; the majority are married women living in Biblián and Déleg cantons.
