dc.descriptionOBJETIVO: El objetivo de esta investigación fue analizar si existe relación entre la enfermedad periodontal y el bajo peso del recién nacido mediante una revisión bibliográfica. MATERIALES Y MÉTODOS: La metodología aplicada fue a través de las bases científicas digitales como son: Scopus, EBSCOhost, Scielo, Pubmed, se siguió la guía de los descriptores DeCS y MeSH, con las palabras claves Periodontitis, Infant low birth weight, Preterm labor, Pregnant women, Periodontal diseases, utilizando operadores boleanos: AND y OR, entre los años 2015-2020, no existió restricción del idioma, los criterios de exclusión fueron artículos no pertinentes con el tema, el resultado final correspondió a 61 artículos los mismos que fueron fragmentados para el desarrollo de esta revisión bibliográfica. RESULTADOS: Los resultados obtenidos de la revisión bibliográfica determinaron que los cambios hormonales aumentan la permeabilidad de los vasos sanguíneos facilitando la entrada de patógenos que pueden producir inflamación e infección en la placenta, los estudios epidemiológicos muestran que las bacterias periodontales especialmente el porphyromona gingivalis se traslada desde la bolsa periodontal a través de la sangre a la unidad feto placentaria afectando al trofoblasto y aumentando la producción de proteína C reactiva, estos mediadores inflamatorios tienen el potencial de amenazar al feto y a la madre dando como resultado efectos adversos durante el periodo de gestación como es el parto prematuro, la rotura prematura de la membrana y bajo peso del recién nacido. CONCLUSIÓN: si existe relación entre la enfermedad periodontal y el bajo peso del recién nacido durante el periodo de gestación.es_ES
dc.description.abstractObjective: To analyze whether there is a relation between periodontal disease and low birth weight through a literature review. Materials and methods: The methodology applied was through digital scientific databases, such as Scopus, EBSCOhost, Scielo, Pubmed, the guide of the descriptors DCS and MeSH was followed, with the keywords Periodontitis, Infant low birth weight, Preterm labor, Pregnant women, Periodontal diseases, using Boolean operators: AND Mesh OR, during 2015-2020, there was no language restriction, the exclusion criteria were articles not relevant to the topic, the final result corresponded to 61 articles which were fragmented for the development of this literature review. Results: The results determined that hormonal changes increase the permeability of blood vessels facilitating the entrance of pathogens that can produce inflammation and infection in the placenta, epidemiological studies show that periodontal bacteria especially Porphyromona gingivalis moves from the periodontal pocket through the blood to the fetoplacental unit affecting the trophoblast and increasing the production of C-reactive protein, these inflammatory mediators have the potential to threaten the fetus and the mother resulting in adverse effects during the gestational period such as premature delivery, premature rupture of the membrane and low birth weight of the newborn. Conclusion: There is a relation between periodontal disease and low birth weight during the gestational period.es_ES
