Backyard hen production is an ancestral practice primarily practiced by women, generating an economic income and guaranteeing food security for these families in the country. Feeding is the foundation of every livestock production system since it determines whether laying or backyard birds can express their total productive capacity. Poor feeding generates several problems at the productive and economic levels. This research aimed to determine the response of supplementing a balanced diet with Armadillidium vulgare woodlice on the quality of backyard bird eggshells. Woodlice was raised rustically, simulating the optimal environment for these crustaceans where they can live and reproduce until reaching a considerable number. Subsequently, the crustaceans (A. vulgare) were collected, and backyard hens were fed with them, providing 1 kg of woodlice weekly for seven consecutive weeks. Supplementation with woodlice (A. vulgare) in backyard hens increased the calcium levels in the eggshells produced by supplemented birds compared to eggs from hens that did not receive supplementation. Similarly, the eggs produced by supplemented hens increased in weight. Conversely, a slight increase in egg production was observed in the backyard hens that received supplementation.
